Rana — Story Association director: I direct the Story Association and have not agreed to a comprehensive merger. We discussed a desk receiving bookings for our different programmes. If an announcement that we have become one organisation gets ahead of us, my objections about the desk will look like retreat from a completed decision.
Basil — employee representative: I represent the four employees who currently receive bookings. They asked me to convey concerns about distributing queries and work, not to accept a merger for them. I fear my attendance being read as advance approval of everything that will change.
Salma — mediator: My role is mediation between you, not signing for either association. Let us separate a shared administration trial from unifying programmes and names. What are the limits of the step the two directors can agree on in this fictional project?
Nadim — Drawing Association director: Under our arrangement for this project, we can agree only to a booking trial. I propose four weeks starting next week, during the existing Tuesday and Thursday periods. We will not add hours to employees’ shifts or change the associations’ names.
Rana — Story Association director: The name is part of identity, but not all of it. I want our team to retain control of the storytelling programme and yours of the drawing programme. Otherwise, we might retain both names while losing what distinguishes their work.
Basil — employee representative: At the desk, one person will ask about a date, another why a text was selected. An employee can enter a booking in the list, but cannot answer about a choice they did not help make. We need a route for referring those questions.
Salma — mediator: Then the desk is a booking point, not a source of programme decisions. We establish two lists bearing the associations’ names, and the booking confirmation names the association providing the programme. Content questions go to someone each association designates.
Nadim — Drawing Association director: I accept the two lists, and prefer a short greeting calling the desk the arts booking desk. I do not want every call to require a long introduction. The relevant association’s name will appear in the confirmation and when the programme is explained.
Rana — Story Association director: I accept trying this greeting, not because it guarantees identity will remain, but because we will examine how callers understand it. I want every question revealing confusion between programmes recorded and reviewed before the trial continues.
Basil — employee representative: I prefer the greeting to name both associations from the start. The confirmation comes after the conversation, by which time the caller may have understood the relationship differently than we intend. I will not describe the abbreviated greeting as the four employees’ choice.
Salma — mediator: Basil’s objection remains recorded, and both directors accept testing the short greeting. Let us specify the review date and what can change. Preserving the objection means neither describing the trial as satisfactory to everyone nor saying it is impossible.
Nadim — Drawing Association director: We review the comments after the first two weeks and can change the greeting then. I will designate someone from the drawing team for content questions. I do not promise confusion will disappear, but having someone to refer questions to makes responsibility clearer.
Rana — Story Association director: I will designate someone from the storytelling team. I also want the trial to end after four weeks unless we agree a new extension. The desk’s continuation should not result from nobody announcing its closure.
Basil — employee representative: I will show my colleagues the query-routing map before the start and gather their comments. Each will retain their current hours, but the working method will change. We should not use unchanged hours as evidence that consultation is unnecessary.
Salma — mediator: The routing map reaches all four this week, and the directors review their comments before the start. If a shift-allocation conflict remains, we will delay the start until the allocation is amended. That is a condition of this agreed trial, not a promise that replies will arrive.
Nadim — Drawing Association director: I will change the announcement to describe a shared desk for a limited period, not a completed merger. I still think wider collaboration may help us later, but will not make the booking trial advance agreement to it. It will require another discussion.
Rana — Story Association director: I will read the announcement before publication. I do not want it saying the desk itself protects our identity. More precisely, we retained each association’s programme decisions and name, and will examine the arrangement’s effect on public understanding.
Basil — employee representative: I ask that we not say we consulted the four employees until the plan reaches them and we hear their response. My attendance here is a stage in that, not a substitute for it. I will convey my objection to the greeting alongside what you two agreed.
Salma — mediator: Then we have the directors’ agreement to a trial, required follow-up with employees, and an objection that has not been withdrawn. Shared work is not a comprehensive merger. Changing the announcement does not remove the need to review how people understand the desk.
Nadim — Drawing Association director: I accept that booking success alone is not the review’s measure. I care about fewer repeated calls; Rana cares about clear attribution of each programme. We will collect comments on both, without assuming improvement in one suffices for the other.
Rana — Story Association director: If callers request a shared programme, their request will not be our decision to create one. It may open a new question, which we will consider then. I accept the trial producing questions we did not anticipate, not commitments we did not agree to.
Basil — employee representative: I will collect queries without callers’ names on the review sheet we agreed. I will not count every question about an association as evidence that its identity is lost; it may be a request for clarification. We will read its wording and context before interpreting it.
Salma — mediator: The sheet should also state what we did not ask about. What we collect at the desk is not a complete judgement on the associations’ identity. It is material for assessing this trial, with the wider decision remaining outside our current agreement.
