Adil: We want the sports hall on Thursdays from six to eight; that time suits our young people.

Huda: Our group wants that time too. Some members work shifts and find Tuesday attendance difficult.

Adil: I understand, but our bus driver is only available on Thursdays, and some young people depend on him.

Huda: Does booking seniority give us priority? We have used the hall for a year and organised our schedules around it.

Adil: Stability matters, but previous bookings should not permanently exclude new groups.

Huda: We have twenty members and you have twelve. Would allocating the time to the larger number not be fair?

Adil: Numbers matter, but they are not the only criterion. The hall is shared, and access matters to everyone.

Huda: Could we use it together? Combining the groups might be easier than changing times every week.

Adil: The hall management allows only twenty participants per session. Together we total thirty-two, so that will not work.

Huda: Then each group needs a separate weekly session. Available slots are Tuesday and Thursday, six to eight.

Adil: We could swap days weekly to share the preferred slot equally, and seek alternative Tuesday transport.

Huda: I accept a trial, but we must know the schedule early. Sudden changes disadvantage shift workers.

Adil: We will publish the full six-week schedule beforehand, giving each group three Thursdays.

Huda: Who gets the first Thursday? I do not want the decision to depend on a personal connection with management.

Adil: We can draw lots before two representatives, one from each group, then follow the announced rotation throughout the trial.

Huda: If a group cancels, does the slot stay vacant? That would waste a shared facility.

Adil: It should notify management forty-eight hours beforehand, and management will offer the slot to the other group.

Huda: Good, provided accepting extra time does not alter booking entitlements in subsequent weeks.

Adil: We will write that clearly and record actual attendance, numbers unable to attend, and their reasons.

Huda: Then we review after six weeks: equal hours do not always mean equal opportunities to benefit.

Adil: I will ask families about alternative transport and send you the draft schedule for review before submission.

Huda: I will collect our members’ comments. We will ask management to confirm the arrangement, then announce it to everyone.

What to remember

  • An earlier booking need not justify permanent priority.
  • Equal hours and practical access require separate checks.
