Salim and Bashir want to start a weekly neighbourhood walk. They adapt the route so neighbours with less time can still take part.

Salim: How about starting a group to walk with the neighbours once a week? I would like us to meet regularly.
Bashir: A lovely idea. But some neighbours are busy and will not be able to walk with us for a whole hour.
Salim: I was thinking of the river route on Saturday. Do you think the distance is long?
Bashir: Yes, and there is no suitable place to turn back halfway along it. I prefer a route that starts at the library and returns there.
Salim: The route around the park is shorter than the river route. We can return to the library after half an hour.
Bashir: That suits me better, as I have an appointment in the evening. What shall we do if others want to walk longer?
Salim: We can divide the walk into two stages. After returning, anyone who wants to can walk for another quarter of an hour.
Bashir: So everyone takes part according to the time they have and does not feel embarrassed about leaving after the first stage.
Salim: Exactly. I suggest meeting in front of the library on Saturday at five in the evening.
Bashir: That suits me. Let us mention in the invitation that we will return to the starting point at half past five.
Salim: I will write a message to the neighbours today and explain the two stages. Should we ask them to confirm they are joining?
Bashir: Yes, a day before the meeting, so we know whom to expect. Anyone running late should tell us in a message.
Salim: If someone arrives after we set off, they can meet us at the library at half past five.
Bashir: Good. Then they can join the second stage if they want. That way they will not have to look for us in the park.
Salim: Should we make this the fixed weekly time from the start, or try it first?
Bashir: Let us try it for two weeks, then ask the participants about the time and distance. We may need a small adjustment.
Salim: I will walk the route tomorrow to check the duration and draw a small map showing our route.
Bashir: And I will ask the neighbours whether they are interested. We do not need a large number to get started.
Salim: So, a short walk for everyone and an additional stage for anyone who wants it, with a clear time and meeting point.
Bashir: Agreed. I like this plan because it lets me take part without changing my evening appointment.
