It is five o’clock in the evening. Hassan sits with his sister Maryam in the living room. She is drawing a garden, and he is reading. They hear a knock at the door. Their father goes and opens the door. The guest is Uncle Khalid, their father’s brother. He carries a basket with apples and bananas in it.
Hassan says, “Welcome, Uncle.” His uncle sits on the sofa and puts the basket on the table. Hassan asks, “Would you like tea?” His uncle says, “I would like water, please.” Hassan goes to the kitchen and brings a glass of water.
Their mother washes the apples and puts them on a plate. The family eats with the guest. Maryam shows her uncle the drawing. He says, “Your garden is beautiful!” Maryam smiles and gives him the drawing. Before dinner, their uncle gets ready to leave. He thanks the family and takes the drawing with him. Hassan says, “Goodbye, Uncle.”
