سَعِيدٌ: إِذَنْ لَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ تَعْرِيفُ الْإِكْمَالِ، وَلَمْ نَحْذِفْ مُشَارِكِينَ؛ تَغَيَّرَتْ نِسْبَةُ الْأَسْمَاءِ إِلَى الْمَسَارَاتِ. أُرِيدُ هَذَا التَّفْصِيلَ، لِئَلَّا يَبْدُوَ الْأَمْرُ تَغْيِيرًا لِلْمِقْيَاسِ بَعْدَ ظُهُورِ نَتِيجَةٍ مُزْعِجَةٍ.
مَازِنٌ: سَأَكْتُبُ أَنَّ الْفَرْقَ الَّذِي بَنَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ تَوْصِيَتِي لَمْ يَعُدْ قَائِمًا فِي الْجَدْوَلِ الْمُصَحَّحِ. لَكِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَا يُلْزِمُنِي بِزِيَادَةِ مَقَاعِدِ الْمُكَثَّفِ بَدَلًا مِنَ الْمُمْتَدِّ؛ فَالتَّسَاوِي لَيْسَ انْعِكَاسًا لِلتَّرْتِيبِ.
رِيمٌ: صَحِيحٌ، وَهَذَا التَّسَاوِي يَخُصُّ الْإِكْمَالَ فِي هَذِهِ الدَّوْرَةِ فَقَطْ. لَمْ نَقِسْ جَوْدَةَ التَّعَلُّمِ بَعْدَهَا، وَالْمُشَارِكُونَ اخْتَارُوا مَسَارَاتِهِمْ بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ. لَا يَنْسِبُ الْجَدْوَلُ الْحُضُورَ إِلَى تَوْزِيعِ اللِّقَاءَاتِ وَحْدَهُ، وَلَا يُسَوِّي بَيْنَ التَّجْرِبَتَيْنِ.
سَعِيدٌ: وَصَلَتْ رِسَالَةٌ مِنَ الدَّاعِمِ تُفَضِّلُ الْمُكَثَّفَ، ثُمَّ أَعْلَنْتَ الْمُرَاجَعَةَ. هَذَا التَّتَابُعُ يَسْمَحُ بِقِرَاءَةٍ مُحْرِجَةٍ. لَا أَتَّهِمُكَ بِالِاسْتِجَابَةِ لَهُ، لَكِنَّ الْقَارِئَ لَا يَعْرِفُ تَارِيخَ وُصُولِ التَّصْحِيحِ.
مَازِنٌ: طَلَبْتُ مِنْ رِيمٍ تَصْحِيحَ التَّصْنِيفِ يَوْمَ الْأَحَدِ، وَاسْتَلَمْتُ جَدْوَلَهَا يَوْمَ الثُّلَاثَاءِ؛ وَصَلَتْ رِسَالَةُ الدَّاعِمِ يَوْمَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ. أَعْلَنْتُ الْمُرَاجَعَةَ الْخَمِيسَ، وَلَمْ أُوَضِّحْ سَبَبَهَا. سَأُرْفِقُ هَذَا التَّسَلْسُلَ، دُونَ أَنْ أَجْعَلَهُ شَهَادَةً عَلَى نَوَايَايَ.

سَعِيدٌ: وَبَعْضُ الْقُرَّاءِ سَيَكْتَفُونَ بِالْعُنْوَانِ. إِذَا قُلْنَا إِنَّ الْخُطَّةَ تَتَطَوَّرُ، بَدَا الْأَمْرُ تَحْسِينًا عَادِيًّا. إِنَّمَا نُصَحِّحُ هُنَا سَبَبًا أَعْلَنَّاهُ، وَيَجِبُ أَنْ يَظْهَرَ التَّصْحِيحُ فِي الْمَوْضِعِ الَّذِي ظَهَرَتْ فِيهِ الثِّقَةُ.

رِيمٌ: لَمْ نُصَحِّحْ سِجِلَّاتِ الْحُضُورِ نَفْسَهَا، بَلْ تَصْنِيفَهَا؛ عُنْوَانُكَ قَدْ يُوحِي بِتَزْوِيرِ الْأَعْدَادِ. قُلْ: تَصْحِيحُ تَصْنِيفِ الْمُشَارِكِينَ يُغَيِّرُ مُقَارَنَةَ الْإِكْمَالِ. وَاذْكُرْ سَحْبَ التَّوْصِيَةِ تَحْتَهُ، بِلَا إِخْفَاءٍ وَلَا تَهْوِيلٍ.
سَعِيدٌ: الْعُنْوَانُ دَقِيقٌ، شَرْطَ أَلَّا يَبْدُوَ التَّصْنِيفُ مَسْؤُولًا عَنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ. لَوْ صَحَّ الْجَدْوَلُ الْأَوَّلُ، لَبَقِيَ الْفَرْقُ بَيْنَ إِكْمَالِ اللِّقَاءَاتِ وَنَجَاحِ التَّعَلُّمِ. هَذَا هُوَ الْجُزْءُ الَّذِي لَا يُصْلِحُهُ نَقْلُ الْأَسْمَاءِ.
مَازِنٌ: مَعَكَ حَقٌّ، لَكِنَّنِي لَا أَتَرَاجَعُ عَنْ قِيمَةِ إِتَاحَةِ الْمَسَارَيْنِ. ثَلَاثُ مُشَارِكَاتٍ كَتَبْنَ أَنَّ الْفَوَاصِلَ بَيْنَ اللِّقَاءَاتِ تُنَاسِبُ جَدَاوِلَهُنَّ. هَذَا سَبَبٌ لِحِفْظِ خِيَارِهِنَّ، وَلَيْسَ بَدِيلًا عَنِ الْمُقَارَنَةِ الَّتِي سَحَبْتُهَا.
رِيمٌ: وَكَتَبَ مُشَارِكَانِ فِي الْمُكَثَّفِ أَنَّهُمَا يُفَضِّلَانِ تَجْمِيعَ اللِّقَاءَاتِ. تُظْهِرُ هَذِهِ التَّعْلِيقَاتُ رَغَبَاتِ أَصْحَابِهَا، وَلَا تُحَدِّدُ حَجْمَ الطَّلَبِ الْقَادِمِ. لِنَذْكُرْهَا إِذَا حَفِظْنَا هَذَا الْحَدَّ وَذَكَرْنَا التَّعْلِيقَاتِ الْمُقَابِلَةَ أَيْضًا.
سَعِيدٌ: أَخْشَى أَنْ يَتَحَوَّلَ حِفْظُ الْخِيَارِ إِلَى حِفْظِ الْخُطَّةِ نَفْسِهَا بِسَبَبٍ جَدِيدٍ. هَلْ سَتُؤَجِّلُ الزِّيَادَةَ فِعْلًا، أَمْ سَتُبْقِي الْمَقَاعِدَ الْإِضَافِيَّةَ وَتُغَيِّرُ تَفْسِيرَهَا؟ الْمُرَاجَعَةُ تَحْتَاجُ إِلَى أَثَرٍ يُمْكِنُ رُؤْيَتُهُ، لَا إِلَى لُغَةٍ أَكْثَرَ حَذَرًا فَقَطْ.
مَازِنٌ: سَأُؤَجِّلُ الزِّيَادَةَ، وَأُبْقِي الْمَقَاعِدَ الْحَالِيَّةَ الَّتِي سَجَّلَ النَّاسُ فِيهَا. لَا أُحَمِّلُهُمْ تَبِعَةَ خَلْطِي بَيْنَ الْحُضُورِ وَالتَّعَلُّمِ. أَمَّا تَوْزِيعُ الْمَقَاعِدِ الْجَدِيدَةِ فَسَيَبْقَى مَفْتُوحًا، وَلَا أَعِدُ بِأَنْ يَكُونَ مُتَسَاوِيًا لِمُجَرَّدِ أَنَّ الْإِكْمَالَ تَسَاوَى.
رِيمٌ: سَأَحْفَظُ النُّسْخَةَ الْأُولَى بِتَارِيخِهَا، وَأَضَعُ عَلَيْهَا إِشَارَةً إِلَى التَّصْحِيحِ. ثُمَّ أَنْشُرُ النُّسْخَةَ الْجَدِيدَةَ وَوَصْفَ الْخَطَأِ بَجَانِبِهَا. حَذْفُ الْقَدِيمَةِ سَيَجْعَلُ تَسَلْسُلَ الْحُجَّةِ أَصْعَبَ فَهْمًا، وَتَرْكُهَا بِلَا إِشَارَةٍ سَيُبْقِي مَعْلُومَةً مُضَلِّلَةً مُتَاحَةً.

Mazin — committee chair: In last month’s minutes I recommended increasing places on our learning centre’s extended course. A correction to the classification of participants has arrived, and I want to review the recommendation, not alter the minutes as though I never made it.
Rim — researcher: These are the figures for our most recent course cycle: twenty-four participants on each course. The first table showed twenty completing the extended course and twelve completing the intensive course. Completion here means attending the six sessions, not reaching a particular skill level.
Said — colleague: You called the recommendation provisional in the minutes, but said in the public message that the results clearly favoured the extended course. Changing the decision is understandable; leaving that confidence unaddressed makes the correction narrower than the original error.
Mazin — committee chair: Calling it provisional is no excuse for overstating it. I saw a difference in attendance and made it evidence that the course was better. I acknowledge that extension of the claim, but need to understand what was corrected.
Rim — researcher: Four people who completed the intensive course were listed under the extended course, and four who did not complete the extended course were listed under the intensive course. We returned the two groups to their courses. Each still has twenty-four participants, and each now has sixteen completers.
Said — colleague: So the definition of completion has not changed, and we have not removed participants; the assignment of names to courses has changed. I want that detail, so this does not appear to be a change of measure after an unwelcome result appeared.
Mazin — committee chair: I will write that the difference on which I based my recommendation no longer exists in the corrected table. But that does not oblige me to increase intensive-course places instead of extended-course places; equality is not a reversal of the ranking.
Rim — researcher: Correct, and this equality concerns completion in this cycle only. We did not measure learning quality afterwards, and participants chose their own courses. The table does not attribute attendance solely to the scheduling of sessions or make the two experiences equal.
Said — colleague: A message from the sponsor favouring the intensive course arrived, then you announced the review. That sequence permits an awkward interpretation. I am not accusing you of yielding to the sponsor, but readers do not know when the correction arrived.
Mazin — committee chair: I asked Rim to correct the classification on Sunday and received her table on Tuesday; the sponsor’s message arrived on Wednesday. I announced the review on Thursday without explaining its reason. I will include that sequence without turning it into a certificate of my intentions.
Rim — researcher: The dates establish that the basis for the review was available before the message; they do not read minds. I will include both tables and explain the transfer of the two groups so readers can examine the argument rather than simply trust us.
Said — colleague: Some readers will stop at the heading. If we say the plan is evolving, it sounds like an ordinary improvement. What we are correcting here is a reason we announced, and the correction must appear where the confident claim appeared.
Mazin — committee chair: I propose this heading: Correction of completion figures and withdrawal of the recommendation to expand the extended course. I will state that I presented the table with more confidence than it warranted, and that my review does not erase my responsibility for that wording.
Rim — researcher: We did not correct the attendance records themselves, but their classification; your heading might suggest fabricated numbers. Say: Correcting participant classification changes the completion comparison. Mention the withdrawal of the recommendation beneath it, without concealment or exaggeration.
Said — colleague: The heading is precise, provided classification does not appear responsible for everything. Even if the first table had been correct, the difference between completing sessions and successful learning would remain. That is the part that moving names does not fix.
Mazin — committee chair: You are right, but I am not withdrawing my view that offering both courses matters. Three female participants wrote that the intervals between sessions suited their schedules. That is a reason to preserve their option, not a substitute for the comparison I have withdrawn.
Rim — researcher: Two intensive-course participants also wrote that they preferred having the sessions grouped together. These comments show their writers’ preferences; they do not establish the size of future demand. Let us mention them if we preserve that limit and include the contrasting comments too.
Said — colleague: I fear that preserving the option could become preserving the same plan under a new reason. Will you actually defer the increase, or retain the extra places and change their explanation? The review needs a visible consequence, not just more cautious language.
Mazin — committee chair: I will defer the increase and retain the existing places for which people have enrolled. I will not burden them with the consequences of my confusion between attendance and learning. Allocation of new places will remain open; I do not promise it will be equal merely because completion was equal.
Rim — researcher: I will preserve the first version with its date and mark it with a notice referring to the correction. Then I will publish the new version and an account of the error alongside it. Deleting the old one would make the argument’s sequence harder to understand; leaving it unmarked would keep misleading information available.
Said — colleague: I want a similar notice in the public message, not just the table. Let Mazin write the acknowledgment in his own name: the recommendation was his. Attributing the correction only to the centre could hide his responsibility behind a collective voice.
Mazin — committee chair: I will, and I will not say our correction guarantees the next decision will be right. I can explain its basis and limits, and identify what could change it. Promising people infallibility after this error would repeat the same problem.
Rim — researcher: I will also say that attendance remains useful information for planning, even though it does not answer the question about learning. The correction does not turn everything we collected into noise; it stops us demanding an answer for which we did not create a tool.
Said — colleague: I still think reviewing the message before publication would have prevented part of the problem. But I accept that withdrawing the recommendation now is closer to remaining consistent with its stated reason than clinging to it after that reason has disappeared.
Mazin — committee chair: We will publish the correction and the deferral of the increase today. I am not asking for endorsement of my judgment or absolution from responsibility for it; I am asking that we make its revision open to scrutiny. I will continue supporting varied courses without claiming the table settles their allocation.
Rim — researcher: I will send the two versions and the explanation. I will write that equality describes the corrected data; it is not an automatic recommendation for equal provision. Choosing a plan remains a judgment that needs other stated reasons and acceptance of responsibility for it.
Said — colleague: I will review the message on that basis and keep my objection to the initial confidence in the minutes. Changing alone is not enough to make us worthy of trust; people need to see what changed, what did not, and why.
