Sami: I found many dishes in the sink this morning. I wanted to prepare breakfast, but the space was crowded.

Nadir: Sorry, I came home late from work and left my dishes after dinner. I thought I would wash them before you woke up.

Sami: I understand, but the problem has happened repeatedly this week. I also left a pot unwashed yesterday.

Nadir: True, we have not agreed on a clear routine. I would prefer to find a solution for both of us instead of blaming each other.

Sami: What do you think about each of us washing his dishes after his meal and wiping the area he used?

Nadir: I agree, but the pot is sometimes hot. Can I wash it after I finish eating?

Sami: Of course. Please wash it that same evening so the sink is empty in the morning.

Nadir: And I will do that. But what about the meals we cook together? Their dishes do not belong to just one person.

Sami: For a shared meal, one of us cooks and the other washes up. Then we exchange the two tasks next time.

Nadir: That is fair. The same person will not cook and wash everything every time.

Sami: We also need to clean the floor. I am free on Saturday; does that day suit you?

Nadir: Yes, I would prefer us to take turns cleaning it every Saturday. I will start this week, and it will be your turn next week.

Sami: Agreed. I will write the tasks on a sheet on the fridge, with the name of the person responsible for the floor this week.

Nadir: And if either of our work schedules changes, he tells the other early and asks to swap turns instead of leaving the task undone.

Sami: Yes, and the other person needs to agree to the swap. Simply sending a message does not mean he is available.

Nadir: I understand. I can wash last night’s dishes now. Then we will begin the new routine this evening.

Sami: And I will wash the pot I left. I do not want you to do my work as well.

Nadir: Let us try this system for a week, then discuss what worked and what needs adjustment.

Sami: Good. The aim is to find the kitchen ready to use and have a clear division of work.

Nadir: I agree. We will remember our responsibilities easily, and if we find a problem, we will discuss it before it recurs.
