Sami wanted a laptop for writing his homework. He found a new device in the shop that cost two hundred dinars. He had eighty dinars and worked in a shop at weekends. He calculated that he could save forty dinars each week, so he wrote in his notebook, “I will buy it after three weeks.”

At the end of the first week, he had one hundred and twenty dinars. But his bicycle broke down, and he needed it to get to work. He paid forty dinars to have it repaired, leaving him with eighty dinars again. He looked at his plan and felt disappointed because the purchase would be delayed.

Sami told his father what had happened. His father said, “You will need one extra week, and your bicycle works now.” Sami opened his notebook and recorded the repair cost, then changed the purchase date. He continued saving forty dinars each week and wrote the new total in his notebook whenever he added money.

Four weeks after starting the plan, Sami had two hundred dinars. He went to the shop with his brother, tried the keyboard and looked at the screen. He paid and returned home with his new laptop. In the evening, he typed his homework on it, then put the notebook with his plan beside it and smiled.
