Mariam sits at her desk after school. She wants to write a letter to her grandfather. He lives in a faraway village. She takes a white sheet of paper and a blue pen. She writes, “To my dear grandfather, how are you? I am well, and I love you very much.”
Mariam writes about her school and her new friend. Then she draws a big tree below the words. Her grandfather likes trees, and there is a big tree in his garden too. She shows the letter to her mother. Her mother says, “Your drawing is lovely. Your grandfather likes your letters.”
Mariam puts the paper in an envelope. She writes her grandfather’s name and address on the envelope. Her mother reads the address again. After that, Mariam goes with her mother to the nearby post office. She carries the letter in a small bag.
Mariam says to the employee, “I want a stamp, please.” She pays and puts the stamp on the envelope. Then she gives the letter to the employee and says, “Thank you!” On the way back, she says to her mother, “Now my letter is on its way to my grandfather!” She smiles.
