My name is Maryam. In the evening, I enter the kitchen with my brother. We want fruit salad for the family. There are apples, bananas and grapes on the table. I say, “I like apples.” My brother says, “And I like bananas.” We choose the fruit together.

First, we wash our hands. I wash the apples and grapes with water. My brother puts a big bowl on the table. My mother is with us. She cuts the apples into small pieces. My brother peels the bananas, then cuts them with my mother’s help.

We put the pieces of fruit in the bowl. I add the grapes and mix the fruit with a spoon. The colours are lovely! I taste a small piece and smile. I say, “The salad is sweet. We do not need sugar.” My brother laughs and brings four plates.

I put a little salad on each plate. My father enters the kitchen and looks at the table. We sit with my mother and father and eat. My father says, “Thank you both!” After eating, we wash the plates together.
